How to use your NAD+ pen

Watch the walkthrough below, or follow these steps to use your NAD+ pen safely and correctly. Read all the way through before your first injection.

Steps 11, in five stages

Stage 1

Getting set up

Wash your hands

Wash thoroughly with soap and warm water, or use an alcohol-based sanitiser. Let your hands dry completely before you handle anything else.

Lay out your kit

Open your NAD+ kit and set out the syringes, the solution vial, alcohol swabs and your sharps bin. Getting everything to hand now means you're not going looking for something halfway through.

Let the vial warm up

Take the vial out of the fridge and let it come up to room temperature. A chilled solution stings more going in — this one step makes the whole thing more comfortable.

Stage 2

Preparing your dose

Sterilise the vial

Wipe the top of the vial with an alcohol swab and let it air dry. Don't blow on it or fan it to speed it up.

Draw your dose

Remove the protectors from the syringe, insert it into the vial and invert. Draw 0.25ml of solution, checking there are no air bubbles before you withdraw.

Tap the barrel to bring any bubbles to the top and expel them before you withdraw. Air in the syringe means you are not getting the full dose.

Stage 3

Choosing your site

Choose where to inject

Pick a fatty area — the abdomen or upper thigh. Use a different spot each time rather than going back to the same place.

Rotate your sites. Injecting repeatedly into one area causes the tissue to harden over time, which makes absorption less reliable.

Clean the area

Wipe the spot with a fresh alcohol swab and let it air dry.

Stage 4

Injecting

Inject

Pinch the skin, insert the needle smoothly, and press the plunger to deliver the solution. Keep the syringe still while the dose goes in.

Steady is what prevents bruising. Most bruising comes from the syringe moving mid-injection, not from the needle itself.

Stage 5

Afterwards

Dispose of the needle

Put the used needle straight into your sharps bin.

Never re-cap, reuse, or put a needle in household waste.

Store your kit

Keep the NAD+ vial chilled and store the kit somewhere safe, out of reach of children and pets.

Your dose and schedule

The recommended dose is 20–30mg every three days. At that schedule your pen will last four weeks.
